Giuliano Cerbarano

Born in Rome in 1989, he began studying brass instruments at a very young age, starting at just eight years old on a musical path that would see him rise to prominence on the contemporary orchestral and solo scene. His academic training took him through the conservatories of Latina, Benevento and Avellino, culminating in his diploma under Maestro Giovanni Aiezza; alongside it he earned the old-syllabus diploma in Trombone, the Level II Academic Diploma in Musical Disciplines – Trombone, and a diploma in Trumpet.

His advanced training drew on leading figures of the international scene: for trombone he studied with Maestro Andrea Conti (Principal Trombone of the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia); for euphonium he studied under Maestros Steven Mead (teacher at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester) and Luciano De Luca (soloist and euphonium player with the Italian State Police Band), further developing his repertoire with David Childs, Matteo Caramaschi and Fausto Bottoni.

Winner of the National Competition by qualifications and examinations, since 2020 he has held the post of 1st Euphonium of the Italian Army Band, having also qualified for the Guardia di Finanza Band competition. Between 2015 and 2025 he was Solo Baritone, Euphonium and Principal Euphonium of the Italian Brass Band, contributing to two national titles, a European second prize, and the historic win at the EBBA European Championship in Utrecht in 2018.

His concert activity regularly includes prestigious orchestral collaborations, most notably with the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, where he has performed under Antonio Pappano, Keith Lockhart and Carlo Rizzari. Of particular artistic and institutional significance is his collaboration with Maestro Riccardo Muti: on 9 April 2026, at the new "La Nuvola" Convention Centre in Rome, he performed under his direction with the Italian Army Band for the charity event "La Nuvola e la Stella".

His intense international activity has taken him on tour across Europe, the United States, Japan, China and the United Arab Emirates, on the stages of world-renowned concert halls: from the Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to the Paris Philharmonie, from the Tonhalle in Zurich to the KKL in Lucerne, from the Victoria Hall in Geneva to the Southbank Centre in London, all the way to Carnegie Hall in New York, Boston Symphony Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, and the Emirates Palace Auditorium in Abu Dhabi. In Italy he has performed in the country's leading traditional theatres, including the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

As a soloist he has given performances of great prestige: in May 2026 he was featured with the Interforze Band at the Quirinale Gardens for the official celebrations of Republic Day, performing "Elegy" by Filippo Cangiamila; in July of the same year he performed at the World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade, the Netherlands, playing the "Concerto for Bass Flugelhorn" by Amilcare Ponchielli with the Italian Army Band. At the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples he has performed as a soloist on several occasions, including "Napoli" by Hermann Bellstedt with the Italian Army Band, for the celebrations of the city's 2,500th anniversary, and "Pantomime" by Philip Sparke with the ensemble Brasseventum. Among his other notable solo performances is the Italian premiere of the version for Euphonium and Wind Orchestra of "Concerto No. 4 'Omaggio'" by Philip Sparke with the Ferentino Band.

His artistic standing is confirmed by major international awards, including the Silver Medal at the 1st Vienna Music Competition, Second Prize at The North International Music Competition in Stockholm, and selection among the finalists of the EBBA's European Soloist Competition in Utrecht.

Throughout his career he has taken part in major media events of global reach: from performing the national anthem for the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix in Monza (2026), broadcast live worldwide, to prime-time appearances on Rai 1 with "La Notte dei Serpenti" (2025 and 2026 editions) and the closing night of the 64th Sanremo Music Festival from the Ariston Theatre. Other major television appearances include the concert "Al Bano – 4 volte 20" from the Verona Arena on Canale 5, the concert for the 162nd anniversary of the Italian Army on Rai 5, and appearances on Rai programs such as "Uno Mattina", "TG2 Costume e Società" and "Paradise".

On the publishing and recording side, he curated for Mulph Edizioni Musicali the reconstruction and revision of the chamber-orchestra score of "Fantasy, Potpourri for Euphonium and Orchestra on 'Il Mio Tesoro' op. 94" by J. N. Hummel. He has taken part in several recordings, including the album "Roots" by Enzo Turriziani with the Italian Army Band, "Verdi Overture" with the Italian Brass Band, and the recording of the opera "La Fugitive" by Lucio Gregoretti with the Giovane Orchestra of the Rome Opera House.

Also active in teaching, he has taught Trombone, Euphonium and Ensemble Music at the "Leonardo da Vinci" and "Luigi Garofano" music lyceums in Vairano Patenora and Capua. He carries out ongoing teaching activity through masterclasses and actively collaborates with the Italian Euphonium Academy.
